T1-11 and plywood siding
Common on garages, sheds and older homes around Odenton. The grooves and the exposed end grain at the bottom edge are where it fails first, because that is where water sits.
It wants a solid or semi-transparent stain rather than a film-forming paint, and the bottom edge needs particular attention — including making sure it is not in contact with soil or mulch.
Cedar and natural timber
Cedar carries tannins that will bleed through a light-coloured coating if it is not sealed with a stain-blocking primer first. Those brown streaks appearing through fresh white trim a month after painting are almost always this.
Engineered wood siding
